SunKid expands its offer with additional versions of the Wonder Carpet Gallery
New SunKid Conveyor Canopies
Constant product development, as well as revolutionary innovation are closely tied into the corporate culture of the SunKid company. Already in 1996, SunKid developed the revolutionary conveyor climbing aid system and has in the meantime made 2300 installations worldwide. Working closely with its clients, the company fitted the first conveyors with overhead canopies over 8 years ago. The advantages are obvious – easier maintenance and operation of the equipment for the operator and protection from wind and weather for the guest. This past winter, SunKid managed to install completely new and innovative canopies in very close cooperation with customers.
The essential technical innovations of the new SunKid EVOLUS at a glance:
- Spacing between the arches is individually adjustable e.g. 4 to 8 ft (1.5m - 2.5m) and can thus be adapted in the most cost-efficient manner to snow and wind loads. In addition, the individual spacing (larger spacing) of the arches can give an even freer sense of space inside the gallery.
- Individual visual design is possible (polycarbonate only, polycarbonate-aluminum-wood, polycarbonate-aluminum, polycarbonate-plastic, etc.) In French Les Menuires, we were already able to install a polycarbonate-aluminum-wood gallery this year. We will provide you with a report on the project in the very near future.
- Given their width, the aluminum arches can optimally even out variations in incline.
- Special rubber profiles provide optimal sealing of the gallery and efficiently prevent water intrusion.
- A special mounting slot on the outer side of the gallery makes individualized design of the arches possible (wood paneling, etc.)
- The special mounting system of the plastic windows allow for “bolt-free” mounting. (easy replacement, easy maintenance ...)
- All types of extensions and retrofits are easy to do thanks to the rectangular polycarbonate form and easy mounting (e.g. foil for advertising purposes, photovoltaic modules, …)
- Sliding doors or rolling canvas covers are a possibility at side emergency exits and entry and exit ways
- Larger distances between side emergency exits (as for example at the Planai project every 59ft - 18m) are possible thanks to larger inner dimensions.
- The aluminum profiles, as well as the polycarbonate can be finished in any desired color (e.g. aluminum profile powder-painted in anthracite and orange polycarbonate windows).
VARIOS Gallery
The basic idea behind the SunKid Varios gallery is the flexible combination of various materials. A solid metal substructure holds laminated wood beams with polycarbonate windows that are easily and quickly joined together on-site.
The main focus in the development of this gallery aside from the visual aspect was above all:
- easy handling during assembly and disassembly,
- easy and space-saving storage capability of the components (for transport or warehousing in summer),
- adaptability to any terrain without any cutting or adjusting on-site,
Individually customized facings from various materials and of various forms (e.g. larch wood, wooden rails of any type, slate plates, ornaments, glass plates, corrugated plates, back-lit images, prints of any type and form) in the lower part offer numerous design possibilities and ensure a personal touch.
Technical specifications of the SunKid Varios Gallery:
- Emergency exits available on both sides every 19.68 ft (6m) - (larger distances possible subject to approval by authorities)
- Emergency exits can be closed off with sliding doors
- Passage width TOTAL 6.56 ft (2000mm)
- Inner height TOTAL 7.54 ft (2300mm)
- Emergency exit passage width 3.93 ft (1200mm)
- Adjustment to terrain (concave-convex) possible by +/- 3 % every 19.68 ft (6m)
- Preassembled components only need to be joined together on-site using massive Nirosta flanges (no cutting / adjusting on-site required)
- 0.1181 inch (3mm) thick polycarbonate
- Full wood laminated beams 0.39 ft (120mm) thick
- All wooden components installed on the external side of the gallery are not subject to any direct wind or precipitation
- The gallery can be closed off on the valley or the mountain end.
- Optional canopies for entry and exit areas are available.
- Existing facilities can also be fitted with the SunKid VARIOS Wood Gallery.
- Individually designed facings on the side of the gallery (various forms and materials such as wooden rails of all types, slabs and slate plates, ornaments, glass plates, corrugated plates, back-lit images, prints of any type and form).
Gallery SERFAUS
The main link from the Serfaus Kinderschneealm to the cable car and restaurant is a 229.65 ft long Wonder Carpet from SunKid. The conveyor transfers guests uphill as well as downhill depending upon the time of day.
The customer presented SunKid with the task of fitting this main artery, used all year round, with a canopy that optically blends with the total concept of the new Kinderschneealm. Therefore SunKid developed, along with its partner Almholz, a wooden gallery modeled on a Tyrolean wood shed. Two cable railways that closely cross over the gallery were a special challenge. In close cooperation with the Tyrolean government, an appropriate safety concept was developed.
DUPLEX Gallery
The requirements for this project in Sierra Nevada (Spain) were not easy to fulfill. A complete canopy covering two conveyors running in parallel (a SunKid conveyor and a Kaser Skicarpet) had to be designed, manufactured and assembled from the bottom up in only 3 months. In addition, the unit was to be installed at 2,600m above sea level and would have to withstand the most extreme weather conditions (such as wind speeds of up to 130.49 mph - 210 km/h).
The SunKid development department designed the DUPLEX Gallery with an inner passage width of 1.08 ft (330cm) and an inner height of 0.82 ft (250cm). In this gallery as well various materials were combined with each other. The foundation was again a solid fully galvanized metal substructure. An innovative half-arched aluminum profile built the basic structure of the canopy. The entire upper area was filled with 0.1969 inch (5mm) thick polycarbonate glass. Impregnated wooden sheathing in the lower part created a soft and pleasant sense of space. Electrical rolling doors are mounted at both the entry and exit. There is a side opening every 49.21 ft (15m) that can be closed off with glass doors.
PC-ORANGE Gallery
SunKid offers customers an innovative alternative even with the tried and proven aluminum design. The 0.1181 inch (3mm) thick, UV-resistant polycarbonate glass can also be ordered in orange. The resulting effect not only turns the gallery into an eye-catcher in the ski area, but also enlightens the spirits of passengers during their ride, also in gloomy weather.
Gallery with PHOTOVOLTAICS
The Gallery enclosure for the conveyor belt can now be outfitted with solar panels to produce green energy. The electricity produced by the panels is then fed into the power network, or can be stored in batteries for later use directly on site.
The solar panels are laminated into place with a sandwich-like construction using two polycarbonate panes, each 0,07”(2mm) thick. This ensures both optimal protection from damage and utmost reliability. In addition, the laminar construction with two panes increases structural strength.
The new laminar construction using polycarbonate panes not only allows the incorporation of solar panels, but also additional possibilities – like the insertion of transparent logos, signs, advertisements, etc.
