Watch out for the ArBär! SunKid installs three Wonder Carpets in the new children's and beginners' area:

The Grosse Arber Mountain ski area,
with an innovative SunKid solution

A new children's and beginners' area was constructed for the 2009 winter season on the Bavarian Forest's Grosse Arber Mountain. The ideal new beginners' area is located on a sunny slope, with gentle elevation changes customized for the abilities of small and large guests. Three SunKid conveyor belts were installed as ascent aids – at 33 metres, 90 metres, and 102 metres respectively. In addition to the "ArBär" mascot figure, numerous new SunKid figures enliven the scenery with colour and complete the offering from Arber Lifts.

For the operators of Arber Lifts, creating the best conditions for children and beginners in the ski area was the highest priority! So in the past summer, the facilities at Thurnhof were adapted for the new children's and beginners' area. Thanks to good preparation work, the three SunKid Wonder Carpets - at a length of 225 metres - were installed in the fall in only 1.5 days.

ArBär Children's Land

The new ArBär Children's Land was opened this winter season. Already after the first day, it was obvious the project was successful. “The guests were immediately thrilled with our new offerings and are excited about the new possibilities!" reports Thomas Liebl on the new ArBär Children's Land.

The 33-metre long conveyor belt was installed in the separate children's area, where the smallest winter skiers can romp and play among the colourful SunKid figures. The Wonder Carpet is the ideal ascent aid for the youngest guests. Using the conveyor belt, children are brought to the top quickly and easily, and can fully concentrate on the descent. The result for skiers is rapid progress and more enjoyment!

For beginners, two additional SunKid Wonder Carpets are available – at 90 and 102 metres each. Arber Lifts benefits from these services by being able to give guests a separate area to practice. Even advanced skiers can take advantage of the facilities in the ArBär Children's Area to improve their technique.

SunKid with more possibilities

The three SunKid Wonder Carpets at Grosse Arber Mountain were all equipped with the patented SunKid "Radius" side exit. This was included to minimize shutdowns of the conveyor system, a feature that is only possible with the SunKid side exit construction. The reason is that in the exit area, the shutdown switch and circuit box were replaced by a safety door. Operational safety is significantly increased in this way - particularly during snowfall!

Supervision of the SunKid systems can be carried out from a central location in the new area. By using cameras, individual positions can be monitored more closely. SunKid installed a central operation terminal which enables control of all three SunKid Wonder Carpets. Operators can communicate with passengers via a public address system.

The operator decided on a wider conveyor belt for the two 90m and 102m SunKid Wonder Carpets. At a width of 750mm (standard is 600mm), the conveyor belt offers skiers, snowboarders, sledgers, and most of all, pedestrians more comfort when exiting the lift. SunKid is the only manufacturer that can offer conveyor systems in widths of 500mm, 600mm, 750mm, 900mm, and 1200mm.
