The Wonder Carpet, for perfect logistics!
The Scandinavian enterprise Skistar operates a total of seven ski areas in Norway and Sweden. One of them is located in Norway's Trysil, where a new SunKid project was completed in December 2008. Guests can now take advantage of two Wonder Carpets at 48 m and 162 m in length, both equipped with a gallery enclosure, to bridge the space between the hotel/car park and the lower station of the ski lift. A “shuttle service” – allowing a perfect logistic solution which transports guests quickly and comfortably to the ski area!

Conveyor belts as a logistic solution
SunKid was given the task of creating a transport solution for the Ski area in Trysil. The assignment was to construct a means of transportation running from the resort's hotel and attached car park to the lower lift station. The operators decided to span this gap using two SunKid Wonder Carpets. Both conveyor belts, 48m and 162m respectively, were outfitted with the SunKid gallery enclosure with blue side doors, adding to the view of the ski facilities.
In addition to the visual advantages of the SunKid Gallery, the operators also receive numerous benefits in operation and maintenance. The gallery protects visitors from wind, rain, snow, and cold, and provides an easy start-up in the morning despite snowfall. Side emergency exits are located every 1.8m in the gallery, guaranteeing exceptional safety. The tried and tested modular construction of SunKid products also allows installation of the system on convex-concave terrain.

More conveyor belt - more comfort
The use of wider conveyor belts is a trend in the industry. The wider the belt, the more comfortable the ride. Pedestrians benefit the most from the wider standing platform. For this reason, the Skistar company chose a 750mm conveyor belt (standard is 600mm) as the solution for transport from the hotel/ car park to the lower lift station.
In recent years, ever wider conveyor belts have been developed and produced. Taking advantage of these developments, SunKid is the only manufacturer able to offer 500mm, 600mm, 750mm, 900mm, and 1200mm conveyor belts for SunKid products, based on a standard substructure.
SunKid Side Exit
The operators also opted for SunKid’s patented ‘radius’ side exit. The reason for this was that the shutdown of the conveyor could be minimised, something which is only possible from the SunKid design of the side exit. In the exit area, the switch off flap and the light barrier are replaced by a safety gate. This significantly increases operational reliability, especially when snow falls!
This innovative solution is causing excitement in Trysil. The “shuttle service” brings visitors quickly, safely, and comfortably to the lower station. This creative solution was developed in cooperation with SunKid to increase customer satisfaction!
