Kasberg is Home to the Longest Covered Wonder Carpet in Upper Austria

This year has been full of changes in the ski resort of Kasberg in Upper Austria. Alongside the construction of the new ‘Sonnalm’ ski hut and the expansion of the existing freestyle park, the resort has also heavily invested in its children’s facilities to make it more attractive to families.

A new indoor play area ensures that even the resort’s smallest guests have a fun-packed time off the piste too. On the piste, the family slope has been expanded to make it more accessible to skiers of all abilities. However, the largest and most significant change has been the expansion of the children’s ski area.

To celebrate the opening of these new facilities in true party fashion, the resort management held two concerts starring the top Austrian singer Christina Stürmer and hot new breakthrough band SheSays.

The Children’s Ski Area

In preparation for the 2006/2007 winter season, it was decided to install an 84 metre-long Wonder Carpet to complement the 42-metre facility already installed in the area. Indeed, the new facility represents the longest covered conveyor in the whole of Upper Austria.

The new facility is covered with a SunKid ‘Gallery’ cover, powered by an 11 kW drive motor and equipped with the SunKid ‘Rufftop’ running surface.

The conveyor boasts a maximum transport capacity of 1,400 skiers per hour and enables guests to be transported swiftly and safely up the slope with an average gradient of 15%. Having reached the top, the newly designed “SunKid Radius“ side-exit system allows the guests to get off the conveyor quickly and smoothly.

The tried-and-tested SunKid conveyor cover not only protects guests from wind and precipitation but also significantly reduces the maintenance work required to keep the Wonder Carpet in top condition.

As well as the two Wonder Carpets, SunKid also installed a ‘Rotondo’ ski and tubing carousel in the children’s area. This facility gives younger guests the chance to learn to ski in a fun and relaxed way.

Both conveyors and the carousel are supervised by one centrally-positioned member of the resort staff.

Impressions of the new facilities

The resort manager, Peter Grögler, gave us his impressions of the new facilities:
“The new covered conveyor has been a fantastic investment. Both the resort team and the guests themselves are more than happy. Guests who have visited the resort then tell their friends and word of mouth means that the number of guests in the area grows every year!“
