SunKid’s Rise to the Top Continues Down Under

The Falls Creek ski area is located approximately 300 km from Melbourne, in south-east Australia. A total of twenty lifts in the resort whisk guests from the foot of Mount McKay up to an altitude of 1800m, including six SunKid Wonder Carpet conveyors installed over the course of the last nine years.

"Mouse Trap" – a new 114m fully-covered SunKid Wonder Carpet

The longest of the six Wonder Carpets was installed in April, perfectly timed to coincide with the start of the Australian winter season. The lift, which primarily transports guests of the resort’s ski school, measures a total of 114m and is covered along its entire length by a stunning SunKid conveyor cover. The Wonder Carpet is driven by a powerful 11 KW motor and is equipped with the tried and tested “Blue Eye” running service, giving the conveyor a potential maximal transport capacity of 1400 skiers or 2000 pedestrians per hour.

The conveyor can transport not only guests with or without winter sports equipment but all of the latest alternative snowsports equipment as well.

The SunKid conveyor cover protects guests from wind, cold and all forms of precipitation and significantly reduces the maintenance requirements of the facility. For example, thanks to the cover, there is no need to clear snow from the lift each morning before the start of the skiing day. With its modular construction, the lift masters convex and concave terrain profiles with ease. The sidewalls were intentionally designed to be vertical and not rounded so as to avoid the danger of the cover being damaged during piste preparation or similar activities.

Austrian Ski School Expertise

The ski school in Falls Creek has been run for over ten years now by Benny Pregenzer who also runs the ski school in the Tyrolean resort of Fiss-Ladis in Austria. The ski school employs approximately 120 ski teachers, of whom more than 30 are from Austria. Indeed, the organisation of the ski school itself is also based on Austrian ski school expertise. This Austrian influence has undoubtedly helped the Falls Creek ski resort to establish itself as a favourite destination for families and children.

SunKid supports this approach with its innovative products, thus allowing the realisation of this philosophy in the day-to-day life of the resort.
